Why Do We Recommend Carrillo Rods?

f-ps73-1

It all comes down to time-tested & trusted quality and function wrapped together for a great price.

Quality:

Carrillo goes above & beyond by having their rods heat validated, by the supplier and by an independent metallurgist who confirms the desired physical and chemical properties of steel. Each lot of bolts are sample tested destructively for both ultimate tensile strength as well as levels of fatigue.

When it comes to rods, Carrillo uses proprietary chrome, moly, nickel, and vanadium alloy (meets all VAR, vacuum arc re-melt ASTM standards).

All heat treat processes are done by a mar-aged operation, resulting in UTS of 195,000 with a yield of 182,000 – this maintains the critical elements of low notch-sensitivity and ductility.

All Carrillo billet connecting rods are manufactured from an oversized forging which results in a proper grainflow – this process removes any potential inclusions or surface conversions generated by the forging process. Carrillo’s CNC machines validate dimensional integrity by probing. At least twice during the production process each part is magnafluxed. Each piece is also Rockwell tested to validate the heat treat procedure. Finally, to complete the part, a final shotpeen operation is done.

Carrillo has been in the custom rod business since 1963 and has provided custom & prototype rods to every major automotive & motorcycle venue. So, they know their stuff.
