Your transmission was only designed to handle the torque and horsepower the stock engine delivers, and in the case of some Dodge models, even the stock torque can present a challenge. So when you start adding power modules, turbo upgrades and other bolt-ons, it's only a matter of time before the transmission wears out and eventually fails.

BD transmissions are built specifically to handle the high torque loads of diesel engines at our state-of-the-art transmission facility. We re-program the valve body for higher line pressure, and add heavy-duty clutches with up to 25% more material than stock. The stock thrust washers, which disintegrate and leave metal filings in your transmission, are replaced with roller Torrington bearings. We install NEW input shafts and hubs to eliminate possible metal fatigue or high torque load damage from prior use. We recommend billet steel input and output shafts for applications with extra big tires and modified power levels.

Inside each transmission is a NEW DESIGN valve body that achieves up to 80% higher clutch apply pressures over the stock unit and up to 50% over the competitors with the pressure increase starting at much lower engine rpm's and at lighter throttle pedal position movement. Light throttle shift firmness is also maintained at these higher apply pressures and no shuttle shifting problems.

Our transmission packages also include a BD rigid aluminum heavy duty transmission pans' which adds extra oil capacity and reduces case flex, plus, includes a BD auxiliary full flow filter kit for extra protection. Each transmission is dyno-tested to make sure it functions properly in all gears, then the pan is dropped and everything inspected and adjusted before it is shipped to you in one of our containers.



CAN YOUR STOCK 68RFE TRANSMISSION KEEP UP?

While the 68RFE transmission was built to handle the torque and horsepower of the 6.7L Cummins engine in its stock setup hauling normal loads, heavy loads and performance engine modifications can easily push them to their limits. BD Diesel's transmissions, on the other hand, offer the increased performance capabilities that most 68RFE owners want: they respond with smooth sharp shifts that keep the engine in the required torque range even with heavy loads and increased engine power.

 

GET THE BD 68RFE PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED

Because of the complexity of the electronic controls of the 68RFE and the 6.7L Cummins, replacing the transmission is not a small-shop or back-yard-mechanic job. It requires special scanners, gauges, tooling and flushing machines to get the job done right within the warranty specifications and without creating instant failures. BD has an increasing network of installation centers that can supply and install your new BD 68RFE transmission.

 

THE HIGHLIGHTS OF BD'S MODIFICATIONS:

BD’s 68RFE pumps have a redesigned regulator valve as well as a new valve body separator plate and Pressure Control module. Together, these alterations can deliver as much as 250 PSI clutch-apply pressure providing 150% more holding force than the stock setup. This additional holding force significantly improves its ability to prevent the clutch from slipping.


BD’s 68RFE Electronic Pressure Controller dynamically adjusts the hydraulic apply pressures based on accelerator pedal position (APPS) which is used in governing engine load and responsiveness through transmission gear selection. The modules dynamic control ramps up the much larger sweep right up to 250 PSI mainline pressure as needed dynamically. This is not accomplished with any other aftermarket engine tuner. 

All the clutch packs and drums have new machined designs with the maximum amount of heat/energy capacity in mind. Special machining has been done to the 2nd gear piston to incorporate additional thick-as-stock clutch fiber and steel plates. The 4th gear apply piston has been modified to accept a new heavier Billet retainer, and, a steel girdle is applied to strengthen the piston and give a broader apply area.
The Low and Reverse sprag clutch with dog-bone style dawgs that bind and wedge themselves to destruction are replaced with a new BD exclusive, heavy duty constructed cam and roller style one-way clutch preventing these explosive failures.
 

Each transmission is dyno tested and comes with BD’s Heavy Duty Deep Sump aluminum transmission pan to add strength to the case preventing flexing and internal oil leakage.  

We have matched BD’s proven Triple Torque Force Converter to this application. Its one-piece billet cover prevents warping and trapezoid teeth hold the clutches that provide three times the holding power over stock units resulting in less friction wear and no rattling. BD’s own designed cast stator offers the ultimate torque multiplication and hits the target fluid coupling speed. 

The larger input shaft of the 68RFE will handle the shock of the Triple Torque Force 3-clutch engagement but if you are demanding more HP and with less risk, we recommend a Billet Input shaft - broken shafts are not covered under the warranty program.
